How can my child get a good grade in Mrs. Bowers's class?

  • Come to class prepared: bring a pencil, paper, and other supplies that are needed to function in school.

  • Complete and turn in work ON TIME! Don't wait until the last minute, write assignment dates in your planner and get assignments completed and turned in on time.

  • If you don't pass a test or quiz, correct it.  You can correct all test grades (tests, some quizzes, and some projects) up to passing.

How can I help my child?

  • Check your child's red homework folder nightly. Any important papers, permission slips, and assignments will be placed in this folder.

  • Check your child's planner at least once a week.

  • Check the website for assignments and upcoming tests.

  • Encourage your child to read at home. I recommend at least 20 minutes a night.

  • Sixth graders are not too old to be read to. Read with your child and talk about the books you are reading.

  • Ask Mrs. Bowers for help.  There are extra activities and assignments that can be given to help students that are struggling.

Where can I view my student's assignments and grades?

Assignments will be uploaded to this web site in the corresponding six weeks page.  All of the major assignments for the six weeks will be listed.  When the assignment is given, a link will be added to the original document.  Grades will be posted inSkyward.
What happens if my student has a zero in the grade book?

There is no reason why your child should have a zero. All assignments can be made up. I will work with your child to ensure any missing work is completed, whether it means sending it home for homework or keeping him/her in from recess to work on it.

How important is the 6th grade STAAR test?

Sixth graders are tested in Language Arts and Math. In sixth grade there is no re-testing available for students who do not pass the STAAR test.  However, any student who fails to pass a STAAR test risks having to take additional reading and/or math classes in seventh grade in place of one of their elective classes.
